I know the title sounds bleak but I promise it's nothing that serious. I'm talking about The Teacher by Freida McFadden. This was my first read by her and I was not disappointed. I managed to finish this book in I believe 3 days and found myself constantly thinking about it. I did end up rating this book a 4.5/5 just because I was able to figure out some of the plot twist but there was other parts I was not expecting.
In this story, we follow Addie who was involved with a scandal in her previous year of school involving a teacher that was accused of an inappropriate relationship with her and ends up falling into an even more complicated situation. SPOILERS WILL BE COMING so if you haven't read the book yet please don't keep going (I promise my feelings won't be hurt)
Okay so the spoilers that I'm going to talk about are main plot points and twists that I was like WTFFFF.
So I knew Nate was a creep but I was not expecting him to have groomed Kenzie at 14 and that was why she hated Addie so much. I thought maybe it was because the other teacher was her favorite or something.
Finding out that Eve was Nate's original grooming victim. He was a college graduate who preyed on her when she was 15. That grossed me out that he was like that for that long but it makes sense. Once a perv, always a perv (in my opinion)
Eve not being dead. This was kind of predictable but I did originally have the thought that maybe it was Jay who was messing with Nate but it wouldn't make sense that he would've known about what happened to Eve.
THE MAJOR PLOT TWIST I didn't see coming was that Jay is actually Addies best friend Hudson. Let me explain, so Hudson's last name is Jankowski but his buddies call him Jay. Well Eve has been having an affair with her shoe salesman who is preceived to be married with a baby at home however, it is actually Hudson (who I am assuming has been getting calls from his mom and not a wife). So this revelation leaves the question, is Eve just as bad as Nate was? I mean she was sleeping with a teenager and there is no way she didn't see him around school since he is a football player. This was the moment in the book where my jaw hit the floor and I audibly was like WTF.
So overall I would suggest this book absolutely. It has the psychological thriller aspect that helps keep you interested and also that keeps you guessing. I am looking forward to reading more by her
